Japan On Teles

Free the Heel – Telemark in Japan

Hokkaido is known worldwide as a paradise for skiing thanks to its tranquil landscapes, pristine powder and weather conditions.

It has been an absolute pleasure to take part in the making of this documentary series that explores the location through the eyes of expert Telemarker Martino Boselli, who is portrayed here during its latest journey in this winter Makkah for telemarkers and alpine skiers alike.

Telemark skiing, a graceful discipline combining elements of alpine and Nordic skiing, has a unique foothold in Japan due to the country’s abundant, powdery snow and a passionate community of enthusiasts.

Japanese telemark culture emphasizes the artful, flowing style of the sport, aligning it with the aesthetic sensibilities of traditional Japanese arts like calligraphy and tea ceremonies.
